Childhood Education

The Education Department works in low-income communities in the state of Rio de Janeiro, like Baixada Fluminense and São Gonçalo. The project works in conjunction with 11 Community Centers for Childhood Education (CEICs) in these areas, including daycares and brinquedotecas (institutions that create and circulate a collection of toys) and benefits approximately 100 educators, 1000 children and 775 families. The goal of the Education Department is to encourage educators to perform dynamically, by empowering them and working with them to improve their pedagogic practices.

This department also assists CEICs obtain resources for projects that aim to strengthen and encourage growth in the area of childhood education. The objective is to minimize the deficiency left by local government in relation to underserved communities.

Projects and Programs

The department formulates and implements projects that contemplate institutional organization, and pedagogical procedures, physical space and the training of educators. This work is developed by means of assistance through the following four programs:

1- Organization and Institutional Interaction
2- Empowement of Educators and Community Leaders
3- Attainment of Partnerships and Resources
4- Brinquedoteca

Publications

"Alternativas Alimentares" is a publication formulated by the Community Center Amigos do Serpa, a childhood education center that is assisted by Campo and located in São Gonçalo. The book is the product of research that explores the possibilities of using food that is low-cost but high in nutritional value for children. The second edition of this publication was made possible by the support of Campo through the Childhood Education Department.
